EMC & M&a's Day on the Green

After an Aussie BBQ and full bellies all round we hit the green for some bowling action. Branching into our aptly named teams, Kiss the jack, Rocknbowler, lucky strike and Cut the grass, we soon formed an allegiance within our teams and the competitive streak in all of us was slowly exposed. There were some "blockers"some "draw shots" and plenty "Dead bowls" but the action didn't stop there. As it got to sudden death Cut the grass took out the title and very humbly at that!.Kiss the Jack came in third with their team member Sara taking home the horses ass award!

The prize pot didn't stop there. Check out some of the award winners below.

Best Bowling Style awarded to the person with the most unique bowling style went to Betsy.

"Loch Ness Award" for whoever's ball is least likely to be found close to the white ball was awarded to Davina.

The Rookie Award for someone who has never played lawn bowls before but is actually good at it went to Sarah G

What is the work that you are most proud of? I think the Audit Bureau Re-brand was great. It was a strong simple concept executed well and it is standing the test of time well. A social media survey into the habits of Australians and their activity on Social Media has uncovered some disturbing results! Some Aussies (2.8% to be precise) would stop during an "intimate moment" to respond to a Facebook update or a tweet. It isn't surprising to note that 64% of them are men! 885 people aged between 18 through to 70 and beyond were survey and the results are startling! Other results include 3.2% have admitted to stopping and using Facebook in a "Place of worship". This really does make you stop and wonder how on earth did we cope without the modern day necessity that is Facebook!

Brands and Marketers even those of the top names such as google, Microsoft and Starbucks are struggling to derive value from their Facebook presence. According to a new study by Forrester Research the survey of over 500 United States and European marketing professionals found that most were failing to use Facebook to its full potential. This is apparently due to a lack of focus an understanding of Facebook, the resources available on it and its measurements.

One of the giant face's of Social Networking, Shona Mackin, who is chief engagement officer of the Facebook agency Socialface, agreed that brands' Facebook pages were often neglected.This emphasises that building a Facebook presence is a long-term process as explained by Shona Mackin

"It’s not about creating a great looking logo, or a running a one-off campaign - things that traditionally marketers have been excellent at. It’s about having a conversation, being social, and demonstrating that you’re a company worth doing business with."

And with saying this to all you employees who are secretly on Facebook during work time hours or even those who have convinced their co-workers/boss that it is for the benefit of the company, get off Facebook and do some proper work with statistics behind it that show that your a benefit to your place of work.

M&a were invited to participate in an exciting competitive pitch for this global packing brand for a brand building campaign in Vietnam. We can't reveal too much right now, as the process continues, but it's enough to say it's a very "cool" and "trendy" opportunity to expand into this rapidly developing powerhouse of South East Asia.

your ears may be filled with water but breathe easy old mates, M&a has just taken the lead on the new power respirator, that's going to fill your lungs with the "Evian" of filtered air! What's that you say? You're still breathing regular, every-day air? How embarrassing, that was so last week...

M&a have launched a lead generation campaign in conjunction with Motorola and Docomo based around a national travelling Roadshow. In addition to the Lead Generation Campaign we have been engaged to create a post event sales kit to coincide with the campaign.

Frost & Sullivan Excellent Awards 2011
The frost and Sullivan Excellent Awards 2011 were held at the Sheraton on the Park on the 27th October . It was attended by over 90 individuals and was the fifth time M&a has collaborated with Frost and Sullivan to produce a night worth remembering! The Event saw the return of Andrew Everingham as MC and saw the presentation of 18 awards on the night. Some of the award winners included Telstra, Cisco Systems and Salesforce , to name a few! Overall it was a great night, with a happy audience who really enjoyed themselves. Another satisfied client!

As you know, I’m not usually one for handing out gushing praise and my standards are very high, but as I reflect on EMC’s participation at vForum 2011, over the last couple of days, it fills me with immense pride to be part of this team.

The execution was calm, organised, incredibly well planned and nearly flawless with incredibly tightly integrated messaging. If that was the competition then we are definitely winning the marketing battle as we out thought the competition….so much so that we had several other sponsors coming over to our stand commenting on our presence (Presentation by Scott Drummonds, Stand Presence, Demo’s, Boat on Darling Harbour, Social Media, PR etc….) and the buzz that we have created at the event! Our stand was packed for 2 days and we created a real atmosphere.

An huge amount of Marketing Leads were completed which are now being qualified by the LDR team.

A challenging brief, with a tight deadline (when are they not!), we were asked to develop a suite of templates which would be sleek, have cross-cultural relevance, resonate with multiple audiences and reiterate Trend Micro's position as market leaders.

And, fresh off the press, here is the first example of how Singapore has taken our templates and tailored them to their needs.

M&a was the helmet-headlight for Mine Site Technologies involvement in AIMEX.

M&a dug right into their first exercise with their brand new (and happy) client, MINE SITE TECHNOLOGIES, at Mine Site's launch in the c Show at Sydney Showground Olympic Park this morning.

Held only once every four years, AIMEX is the event for mining industry buyers and specifiers from throughout the Asia-Pacific region to source new products, technologies and services from new and existing Australian and international suppliers. AIMEX also provides trade visitors with a valuable opportunity to obtain vital technical information and network with industry colleagues in an interactive business environment.

This event runs until this Friday 9^th September. Check out some pictures of the stand during the bump-in and opening of the show here:

Those trying to keep up with M&a’s recent projects could be excused for having water in their ears as we are riding the waves harder than Taj Burrows these days. So; here is an update just for you:

Coca Cola (Glaceau Vitamin Water)

M&a Launched a new sub brand for the world’s largest soft drink manufacturer, with ‘through the line’ creative executions and activations to some two million people; island wide.

Google Enterprise

M&a also rolled out the first ever road show for Google. The Google road show toured across six cities and four countries; Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and India, in APAC with over 2000 attendees. The road show exceeded expectations by some 137%.

Lexus

M&a have been operating as the Lexus customer call centre and fulfilment house: providing a superior level of customer service to their owners for over a year now. Lexus have been so impressed by M&a’s delivery that they have recently engaged M&a to deliver their below the line marketing. M&a are utilising a sophisticated marketing automation tool which allows for personalised engagement of prospects to nurture them through the sales cycle.

Experian

M&a were engaged to deliver the inaugural Australasian Retail Credit Risk Conference in Australia. M&a were chartered with delivering an event that paid for itself by securing 150 paid delegates. M&a exceeded expectations with 192 registered delegates which allowed the profits to be donated to charity.

Mac Bank

One of Australia’s largest banks got a national through the line campaign treatment for its annual online trading competition. Attracting over 4500 competitors, and new business leads.

Sophos

M&a were engaged to roll out a series of lead generation campaigns for Sophos Endpoint Security & Data Protection Solution. M&a covered the entire campaign from; conceptualization to; creative implementation including; database acquisition and leads prospecting. The campaign spanned across alaysia, Indonesia and India, achieving successfully response.

Telstra International Group

M&a produced a one minute TVC, for a Global telecommunications provider. The commercial was viewed by an audience of over 120,000 captive members.

UPS

M&a were engaged in UPS Intra Asia campaign. The objective of this campaign was to increase the number of package deliveries from their existing SME customer base. A postcard DM with scenic locations of key target countries was developed. The DM was mailed out to 6000 recipients across Asia and UPS received 12.4% increase in sales volume from this campaign.

M&a have officially moved offices. Our new location, Level 4 (that’s right people- the whole level) 231 Miller Street is simply AMAZING. Complete with; sliding glass doors (Sci-fi), flat screen TV’s (corporate), red egg chairs (hectic) and (my personal favorite) stainless steel see-through fridges,

M&a has gone Mission Impossible style. You may even catch a glimpse of a Tom Cruise look alike as you follow the red carpet through to Scott’s office or the Boardroom. Watch this space for pictures of the padded wall where we keep Pru at reception.

As Keynote speakers Dr Glenn Singleman & Heather Swan told their inspirational stories which involved climbing up and then base-jumping from the highest cliff in the world (Mt Meru, India, 6604m) delegates were left reaching for the stars. Glenn and Heather’s ‘never give up’ philosophy set the tone for the entire event with 289 delegates, 17 speakers, 16 presentations, 3 case studies, 2 live demos and a special guest keynote that impressed like no other before it – the 2011 Sybase Summit was a huge success.

Recently, M&a Sydney’s call centre Manager was sent to the M&a Singapore office to update staff with the latest procedures on the ACT program. Ben did this so efficiently he got to spend the rest of his time carrying out extracurricular activities in true M&a style. Phil, Jenneth, Vasil and the rest of the fun loving M&a Singapore team took Benjamin out on the town and we are sure Ben behaved accordingly. With the pivotal Gala Dinner’s theme set as ‘Castaway’, the ARCRC was a billowing hit! Tom Hanks himself would have wished to attend the cocktail party, kick starting what was to be a riveting 3 day conference on the 4th of April. Located at the picturesque Mantra at Salt, Kingscliff, the 3 day Australasian Credit Risk Conference hosted 200 guests.

Delegates from banks such as CBA, ANZ, Westpac, and NAB were so keen to be swept up in the adventure that we were quickly prompted to extend numbers from 150 upwards (not to mention the waiting list!).

Over the course of the 3 day conference, 30 speakers of international calibre entertained and educated guests. With an agenda boasting world-class content in credit risk solutions, each session was packed to the rafters with delegates who were engaged and keen to participate. (Some sittings were so engaging that the guests wished to remain stranded on the island that was the ARCRC, even after the conference had concluded!).

Events, sessions, speakers and social mixers patch-worked the entire 3 days so seamlessly that it seems that M&a have managed to turn what was the first, into definitely not the last ARCRC that this side of the hemisphere will see.

Once again it seems that M&a has managed to pioneer a stellar event! Ai Ai Captain McCorkell!

Seven’s James Warburton new boss of Ten

Seven’s sales boss James Warburton has been named as CEO of Network Ten

Warburton, previously chief sales and digital officer at Seven, replaces Grant Blackley who was sacked by the board last week. He will start in the new role on July 14. Board director Lachlan Murdoch last week stepped in as acting CEO.

Ten chairman, Brian Long said of Warburton’s appointment: “James is a high calibre media executive with an enviable track record in television and digital media sales. He has forged an exemplary reputation in the media sector in Australia and has strong relationships within the media and advertising community.”

Long credited Murdoch with recruiting Warburton, who is on a three year contract. Long said: “The Company continues to be grateful to Lachlan Murdoch for his commitment in the role of Acting CEO during this period, and for bringing James Warburton to Ten.”

Murdoch said: “I am delighted to welcome James to the Ten family. I know James well, and I also know that he will lead this business with great success.”

It takes more than a few uneasy reptiles to frighten Mike. He has even had an article written about him in the “Highland Originals” magazine, quoted as aptly explaining that his volunteer work at WIRES is rewarded when “ordinary people learn extraordinary things.” Way to go Mike! Akin to rescuing reptiles, Mike often puts his problem solving skills to work in the agency. Whether setting free an animal or deciphering computer malfunctions, Mike sure loves what he does.

Another roaring hit. More than expected arrived for the two Trend Micro luncheons, held in Melbourne and Sydney last week.

Attendees were dazzled by the juggling circus performers who greeted guests as they entered. The giveaway bags, equipped with lollies, mini CD’s packed with informative info and 3 colorful Trend Micro juggling balls, proved to be an enormous hit as the Key note speaker, Steve Quane, revealed himself as quite an expert juggler.

The luncheon was closed with guests attempting to juggle their complementary gifts. Thus creating a visual parallel to the theme of an instant cloud environment.

Hydration.

It was the year 2000, in New York City, a humble traveler named J Darius Bikoff was on his way to yoga class. He washed down a vitamin-C tablet with a swig of water, the simple mouthful inspired him to transform it into a beverage that changed the beverage industry forever.

After a decade, this amazingly delicious drink has filtered its way through to many different lands. From the United States to Britain, Canada, Portugal, South Africa, Australia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and China (just to name a few….). Now Vitamin water has trickled through to Singapore.

Vitamin Water was launched on 26th November at ION Sky, the secret observation platform standing at 218m above ground. The night of great celebration was flooded by excitement in that; finally the people of Singapore now too had a taste of the drink that has rocked the world. There was no drought of celebrities or fashionistas at the event. Everyone was impressed and delighted by the splash of color Vitamin Water drenched the scene with.

M&a Singapore’s own stars; Pat & Phil, attended the event as part of the internal team for Vitamin Water. Like vitamins and water, M&a and FMCG seem to also be a perfect pairing.

Chameleons in The Ivy.

Novell guests stepped out of the Ivy Penthouse elevator’s and were engulfed, for the evening, by the jungle paradise created by the M&a team. Novell’s tenth birthday celebration transported all who attended to another world. Attendees marveled at the terrarium in the shower, complete with two frill neck lizards, and the shark fish that inhabited the marble bath.

The lavish surroundings were further complemented by the assortment of canapés on offer. A live oyster bar was opulently presented, (oyster shucker equipped) along with platters of beef carpaccio, roast lamb cutlets, semolina gnocchi and more. No hunting to keep hydrated around the ivy jungle was necessary; with the Green Apple Tom Collins and Pisco Pomme cocktails, and a selection of wine and beer, flowing like the central waterfall.

The highlight of the night was a beautiful meter long custom made chameleon cake that was so life like one would have been forgiven for confusing it with one of the real reptiles present in the room.

The Tarzan of the event was definitely Helen; who, despite sporting torn ligaments and pulled muscles, continued to be the king, or should we say queen, of the jungle. Along with Helen, the M&a crew (consisting of Cilla, Mel and James) carried the event off with cougar like precision.

M&a creative team, comprised of Glenn, Carl and Greg (the ringleader), paired with Helen’s and Cilla’s amazing management skills, resulted in the Trend Micro booth being the most entertaining and popular at this year’s VForum in Sydney. No mean feat!

The highly accredited VMware vExpert sang high praises of the Trend Micro booth and awarded it with the ‘Most Appealing Booth Award’. In reference to the Trend Micro Virtual Carnival theme; “This award recognises the booth that stands out and draws you to it, with so many booths it becomes a blur. Something different must greet the eye.

M&a has organising an event down to a fine art and last Thursday the staff reaped the benefits! The gang warmed up for the staff party with a long jump competition in the office; and the night only escalated in leaps and bounds from there. With French Martini’s, party gags and regal thrones, the M&a team had a hooter of a night. Each getting assigned with a personalised Mr Men persona we wore our character lanyards with pride through the night. There were even miniature gold trophies handed out to the 6 winners of categories voted for on the night including; best shoes and loudest laugh (the latter going to Scott of course). As well as being a stayer in the office, Greg has proved he is one on foot also. On the weekend of 27-29 August, he participated in the Sydney Trailwalker. Navigating his way along the walking track in the bushland of Northern Sydney, Greg accomplished the 100km trek in 27 hours. Exhausted you say - not Greg! Sore muscles and dehydration couldn’t stop him from embracing the challenge, even loving it.

The SAS Forum Was A “Goodnight”.

With the keynote speaker, CEO of SAS; Dr Jim Goodnight, Leading the show, the SAS Forum was a hit! Filling all four floors of the Sydney Hilton function rooms, the crowd arrived on the morning of the 12th of August to soak up industry insight.
M&a’s implementation of a pre-event communications strategy for the paid event resulted in over one thousand guests in attendance.

The McCorkell team, headed by Jacqui, had everything running smoothly from start to finish. After being dazzled with a fire show that punctuated the arranged seminars and panels the guests left with an abundance of knowledge divulged by SAS speakers.

An even sweeter touch than the delicious bite sized nibbles provided were the individual SAS bags filled with information and supplies to equip each guest for the event. The forum even got a mention in the financial review on the 13th August issue. All in all a great day!

Macquarie Bank has appointed M&a Singapore to manage their account locally. Our first campaign for them is to promote their Warrant Hotshot competition- 'Are you the next HOTSHOT?'.

The campaign will be seen across Singapore media through newspapers, websites and flyers. The Singapore Newspaper "The Straits Times" published the first of the ads on 19th of July. The half page ad was featured on page 11 of the paper.

Gartner Symposium

M&a starting preparing for the Gartner Symposium IT/XPO 2009 in June this year. From creative, email blasts, telemarketing to SoftBook Pro, M&a successfully handled Gartner’s audience acquisition strategy.

For the first stage of the audience acquisition strategy Gatner took advantage of M&a’s newest product offering Softbook Pro. The Gartner SoftBook went live on the 5th of August 2009 with amazing success. The SoftBook had a total of 1,633 visits within a few months, 652 links were clicked, 19.72 out of 20 pages were viewed per visitand the average time on site was 15.34 minutes.

An integral part of the acquisition strategy was a series of 4 eDM blasts. The first was a blast to 61,000 contacts segmented by 2 verticals - 2 different eDM versions we delivered to clients and prospects inboxes. The second blast was segmented by 9 verticals based on the tracks offered at Symposium – in this case 9 different versions of the eDM were sent. The third eDM blast was for the government vertical. The final symposium eDM was similar to the first and segmented by 2 verticals with 2 different eDMs. Additionally the M&a sent daily eDM resends to contacts whose emails have been blocked by spam walls further proving the value of follow up telemarketing.

The final stage of the audience acquisition strategy is customer contact care which has proven to be highly successful. M&a was given a target of prospects to register through our contact care team and has gone above and beyond with 135% of target.

The 3 day Gartner Symposium IT/XPO 2009 took place from the 17th November to 20th November 2009.

Autodesk Solutions Day 2009

M&a has held a long relationship with Autodesk and delivered many campaigns ranging from events to direct mail to lead generation. “Solutions Day 2009” for Autodesk was such a success that Autodesk won an AMI Award for the best B2B Marketing Communications for 2009 Solution Day – “Be Drawn into a new world of Design Innovation”. The event was the first Autodesk launch in 7-8 years and we were seeking to boost their profile with customers and the market in the ANZ region. The goal was to position Autodesk as a thought leader in the design industry and create awareness and a preference for their products. Our objective was to have 350 people at the event. All in all this event was extremely positive. The greatest example of this is the registrations and the attendees. 635 delegates registered for the event and 442 turned up during the day. This is a staggering turn out rate of 70%.

M&a engaged in an extensive venue search to find a venue that was perfect to achieve these goals and objectives. The Powerhouse Museum was chosen due to it’s links with the design world and that it could add a unique aspect to the event. The venue required 6 rooms in total in addition to exhibition space for their partners. This venue was also chosen as they have theatres which were used for the main sessions. This provided a much more comfortable environment for delegates. M&a put together a range of signage for the event which really created brand awareness throughout the day . Also managed by M&a was the audio visual process which involved dealing with high level presenters from overseas bringing their presentation that morning and in strange formats that needed to be converted. This was all managed effortlessly due to the years of experience our events department has in audio visual. Due to the impressive number of delegates in attendance M&a had a contingency plan in place which allowed the main session to be streamed live into another theatre with an accompanying feed of the presentor.
M&a arranged for each session to be filmed which we then edited to use post event in online communications to attendees and non-attendees alike. Overall this event was a complete success.

Long Weekend Shoe Wars!

The Long Weekend has been and gone but, the competition to have the best shoe purchases rages on! The winner this wet weekend was Jenny with her Suede and Leather follow me homes. From the front or from the side they present well from every angle.

The story is....."Went to buy beige, suede, cool and comfortable. Looks like the boyfriend won’t be getting his new cushions for his apartment just yet!! Couldn’t resist these sexy stilettos…they were an absolute steal at 50% off at Myer (one size too big but, who cares?)"

According to Greg they look like they are “built for speed.” We’ll have to see about that… but for the moment they’re sitting pretty at the reception desk.
